Integrated Public Address

What is HMC-ICP™?

HMC-ICP™ is the World's First End-To-End Digital Public Address / General Alarm System. This revolutionary technologically advanced communications platform developed by Hose-McCann Communications was designed to accommodate your communication requirements all within a single solution.

HMC-ICP™ is the only truly digital system currently available in communications. The objective was to bring together diverse communication systems into one integrated IP-based platform while still interfacing with existing mil-spec and commercial field equipment such as loudspeakers, beacons, relay boxes, contact makers, loud-hailers, announcing stations, and telephones . This IP-based platform allows for increased flexibility for system expansion or modification, enhanced functionality in a lightweight, sleek, State-of-the Art design, and tremendous cost savings for installation, expansion, modification and maintenance. And the system is ABS Type Approved (certificate number 06-HS198216-PDA).

Bottom line: HMC-ICP is the communications platform of the future. No other system provides you with the function, flexibility and sharp look that you want while affording you significant cost savings both now and as you expand and modify.

HMC-ICP™ stands alone as the only fully integrated system that affords a "Win, Win, Win" solution to the shipyard, the owner and the architect, avoiding the breakdown of relationships and communication by satisfying what is most important to each one.

If you're ready for the cutting-edge solution that saves you money and can grow with your changing needs, then contact us now to make a request for quote or speak with one of our knowledgeable solutions providers.

A True End to End Digital PA/Ga System

What is the difference between a legacy digital system and a true “end to end” digital system? If you look at the parts of a legacy system, which parts are digital and which parts are analog? While control and monitoring cards are mainly digital components, the moment you get to the amplifier you are running an analog system. Most PA/GA systems utilize a bank of amplifiers which are used to feed power down a cable to the waiting speakers.

In addition, signaling to and from the "primary" cabinet is also electrically analog. This includes microphone inputs and call in from telephones, as well as: beacon activation, bell activation, relays, or contact makers.

For a system to be truly digital - both control and audio would need to be in a digital format across the system. The use of technology like VoIP allows a system to be truly digital.

How does HMC-ICP™ Work?

With an understanding of the issues of the current systems, and the divergent needs of the shipyard, the owner and the architect, the following list of requirements helped to guide Hose-McCann Communications Engineering Team in the design concept of HMC-ICP™:

  • Shared cable infrastructure
  • Distribution at all levels of the design
  • Minimum cable types (two) utilizing only readily available cable
  • Adherence to standards
  • Flexibility and expandability
  • Integration
  • Redundancy
  • Ease of operation and maintenance

Unlike legacy systems, which are not very accommodating due to the large racks, heavy amplifiers, multi-pair cabling, wires and circuit boards, HMC-ICP™ is a sleek, lightweight, fully customizable, State-of-the-Art IP-based system that is distributed at all levels of the design. The three main components of the system are Endpoints, Nodes and Controllers.

Endpoints are speakers, control-heads, beacons, relays, cameras, telephones, control pads and wireless points, for example. Endpoints are connected to and powered by the nearest Node. They are independent of one another so that the failure of one does not affect the others.

Nodes are congregation points and distributed throughout the vessel to connect Endpoints and provide redundant paths of communication (fiber optic) in case of a Node failure.

Controllers provide system functionality. Public Address / General Alarm, Automatic Dial Telephone and Wireless controllers are placed in one or more Nodes across the system. Critical system controllers like Public Address / General Alarm are solid state and have no hard drive. Redundancy is achieved by separating like controllers between nodes, resulting in continued system operability even with double interconnection failure.

All three components utilize CAT 5 connectivity for plug and play functionality. The system is Ethernet-based using standard protocols which allows for instant and virtually unlimited expandability. This means, for example, that you can simply, and cost effectively add speakers, or any type of Endpoint, without the added expense and weight of further cabling. Additionally, you save time, money and avoid excess weight because there are no centralized or decentralized amplifiers. You can add more speakers quickly, easily and cost effectively because you don't have to have a bank of amplifiers; simply plug and play. This is the first true end to end digital system, with absolutely no conversion, no amplifiers, from Endpoint to Node.

Nodes, Controllers and Endpoints

The three main components of HMC-ICP are Nodes, Controllers and Endpoints. Endpoints are connected to the nearest Node. Nodes are networked together in a redundant fashion. Controllers are placed in any Node as required. Distribution occurs at all levels of the design. This allows for maximum flexibility and expandability.

The system is designed with the following:
